Chris Hemsworth and his Thor Diet
The well-known Australian actor Chris Hemsworth had to undergo a very strong diet to be able to obtain the weight and the body adapted to interpret the character of Thor. To get that body, Chris had to eat 8 times a day. The actor gained 10 kilograms of muscle mass to look as Thor as possible. His diet was based on many proteins, especially red meats, dairy products such as liquid milk, eggs, chicken fillets, and slow-acting carbohydrates. He had to reduce the consumption of sugar to the minimum, since it consisted in quickly burning the carbohydrates, increasing fat mass. With the help of Kimberly Snyder, a nutritionist for several Hollywood actors, they concentrated not only on gaining weight, but also on taking care of Hemsworth's health. The diet generated large amounts of energy throughout the day, making him have brighter skin and a body that was not exposed to a yo-yo effect.
Kimberly recommended the actor start the day with a good dose of vitamin C. An orange or lemon juice is much better than a coffee and it allowed Chris to maintain energy throughout the day and reach the night without much effort. Vitamin C is a very potent natural antioxidant. Also, he didn't forget to eat a good bowl of fruit or toast. Excess juice is not highly recommended by Kimberly because you have to fill your stomach as it is better to leave some fruit to eat solid and that way, keep something solid in the belly. For Thor's role, Kimberly had to change her mind about proteins. Unlike other opportunities, he told Chris how much protein he needed to get the body he wanted. However, the nutritionist does not recommend a high protein intake as it is related to accelerated aging and daily exhaustion. Another result of eating large amounts of protein is that the liver and kidneys work harder. By the way, Snyder recommends consuming animal protein only if it's two hours or more before bedtime.
For dinner, Kimberly generally recommended not-so-elaborate dishes; a salad was ideal for dinner. But for Chris, he was recommended that if he was to eat grilled chicken, he could accompany it with broccoli instead of potatoes or rice. Hemsworth had to prepare physically and mentally to carry out the diet and workout plan. At breakfast, Chris had several options to eat, including a cup of oats, bananas, grapes, nonfat milk, egg whites or a full egg, cheese, a protein shake, and orange juice.
After breakfast and before lunch, Thor had to eat again, a turkey roll, cottage cheese, mixed nuts, yogurt and another protein shake. One snack consisted of several a little strips of dried meat. For lunch, he could eat three chicken breasts accompanied by broccoli, rice, beans, and a glass of nonfat milk. After lunch he could snack on dried meat. At dinner, Thor could eat three fillets of salmon, quinoa, asparagus, yogurt, and a glass of nonfat milk or it could be varied with two boiled eggs, two slices of whole wheat bread, and a protein shake. This was one of the many diets made before the shoot; in case you want to imitate it, consider changing the amounts because each body has specific needs.
Chris had to undergo many changes in his diet to eat so many times in a day, even the actor confessed that he did not like having to eat without need. Nevertheless, to obtain those 10 kilograms that gained for the film, he had to do it without complaint. Despite being a large man, it was a very drastic routine change for him. Hemsworth did not have a meal plan and carrying it out was truly a challenge for him.
Many times, it was unpleasant for the actor to have to eat so many times in a day. For someone who was not accustomed to a strong exercise routine it was not so simple to carry a diet plan like this. However, Chris always enjoyed his workouts and should eat to be able to develop muscle mass that would lead him to reach the perfect body for the leading role of Thor.
Many other actors made the attempt to carry a training and diet like Chris's but they could not maintain the rate for long time. In addition, Chris had an advantage of coming to do previous exercises and train some sports, which required a good diet for good development and good performance.
Undoubtedly, Hemsworth concentrated very well on his role and the things he had to do to be as close to Marvel's superhero, and it turned out to be a great opportunity for his personal development as well as for his artistic career. After recording the films of Thor and The Avengers, the Australian actor left the diet he was doing and was assigned a role in another film where he also starred but had to lose a lot of weight to be the ideal character.
